MOPS provides a caring atmosphere for today's mother of preschoolers (actually, all expectant moms to those with children in kindergarten) a time of fun and fellowship, learning, sharing and crafts.
MOPS is an international organization that began in 1973 with a group of preschool moms who had a desire to meet together for support and encouragement while also getting time away from their children. Since that time, MOPS has grown, expanded and developed into a ministry that reaches across the country and even the globe. There are close to 1500 groups in 15 countries, meeting the needs of more than 60,000 women each year. MOPS is coordinated by preschool moms themselves.
The goal of MOPS is to provide an opportunity for moms to receive a break from their daily routine and to spend time with other moms. They can share ideas, build friendships, learn from one another, discuss relevant topics and use their creative talents.
The teaching time at MOPS is provided by older women or guest speakers on a variety of topics that are relevant to everyday situations. Teaching is based on biblical principles, and the discussion time that follows provides an open, Christian atmosphere. Moms can share ideas, find encouragement and support!
MOPS meets on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month, from September through May. If Liverpool schools are closed or delayed due to weather, we will not meet.
The meetings begin at 9:15 a.m. The first few minutes are set aside for you to enjoy something to eat and drink, as well as converse with other moms. The MOPS coordinator then opens the meeting.
During the next half hour, a woman known as our Mentor Mom leads a time of teaching. The topics are numerous, but are always related to being a better mom. Periodically, guest speakers also address the group on their area of expertise. Afterwards, all of the moms break into smaller groups for discussion relating to the talk. This is a special chance for moms to share openly and gain from each other's experiences and perspectives.
The last half-hour of the morning is devoted to creating a craft, something that can be used in your home, as gifts or as something to wear. The craft coordinator of MOPS prepares the supplies and then guides the group through the craft.
The moms then go to pick up their children - refreshed, inspired and ready to go greet their little ones with a smile!
MOPS desires the morning to be as enjoyable for your children as it is for you. The people who care for your children are dedicated, loving volunteers with many years of experience as mothers and/or child care providers. In caring for your children, they demonstrate their love for little ones and provide a time for you to share with other moms and be strengthened in your role.
The children are broken into the following groups:
In the two youngest groups, the morning consists of playtime. The older group will also have a Bible story and a craft. Each of the rooms is well equipped with age appropriate toys and books. The nursery and toddler rooms also have changing areas, and the nursery also has a separate room where nursing mothers can have privacy.
We are glad to have you as a part of MOPS and equally thankful to include your children in our MOPPETS program!
